About the Artist

Hi, I'm Bryona! I am an artist and science communicator who works in a variety of media, including watercolor, pen and ink, and digital illustration. I have always been passionate about nature and science, and much of my artwork is inspired by this passion.

I was born in Colorado but grew up in the farmland of Pennsylvania catching newts and frogs and developing a curiosity for the natural world. When I was young I was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. During treatment, I spent a lot of time watching animated movies and admiring the artwork that went into creating them. After three years of undergoing chemotherapy, I was declared in remission!

Being a childhood cancer survivor, science has always been an interest of mine alongside art. I attended Boise State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a cellular, molecular, and biomedical emphasis and a minor in visual art.

I earned my Master of Fine Arts degree in medical illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology, where I learned to combine my passions to communicate science, inspire curiosity, and help make science more accessible through art. With a multi-disciplinary background my interests span from cells, to health and medicine, to plants and animals.

When I'm not creating art, I'm an avid reader of historical fiction, fantasy and romance, and a reptile keeper who is always interested in learning more about herpetology.
